[July 2017] Japan IP High Court Releases Report

The IP High Court in Japan has released a report on statistics of patent infringement cases before the Tokyo and Osaka District Courts (the first instance) that led to the final outcome, including judgments and settlements, in 2014 to 2016. According to the report, among all of such cases, around 66% received a judgment, whereas around 34% reached settlements. Among the judgments, infringement was found in around 24% of cases, whereas infringement was denied in around 69% of cases. Among the settlements, remedies (in the form of an injunction or damages) were provided in around 79% of cases.
