[July 2017] METI Releases IP Protection Report

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has released its Annual Report on the Office of Intellectual Property Protection. The 2016 Report, which concerns the consultation service of the Office, is primarily for the purpose of providing IP-related information to Japanese industries, and details anti-counterfeit/anti-piracy measures enacted by the government.
The 2016 Report notes that consultations concerning trademark rights (52.9%) and copyrights (20.5%) account for most of the IP-related consultations conducted by the Office, and that China-related consultations (51.3%) account for the largest percentage of consultations when the country of manufacture is identified.
